Botox Injection

Botox Injection

As we grow older, it’s natural to show age in the form of lines and wrinkles on your forehead, between your eyebrows (glabella) and around the outside crease of your eyes (crow’s feet/laugh lines).

BOTOX® Cosmetic is a liquid medication injected into muscles and used to improve the look of frown lines, squint and smile lines, nasal crunch lines, and horizontal forehead lines. It works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscle and reducing the muscle activity that causes those unwanted lines to form.

Botox is also used in small amounts in a number of other areas of the face depending on the way your muscles of facial expression work. It can raise the inner or outer part of the eyebrow, lift the corners of the mouth, and help to smooth out dimpled or cobblestoned chins.

Improvements can be seen within days and can last up to four months. For best-continued results, we recommend “touch-ups” in between that time. Botox touch-ups can decrease the need for more units by keeping your muscles relaxed, which will then decrease the skin’s ability to crease and create or deepen fine lines and wrinkles.

Interestingly, BOTOX® has also been found to alleviate migraine headaches when injected between the eyebrows.

Botox Frequently Asked Questions

Does Botox Hurt?

Botox is injected with a very small needle, so it causes very little pain upon injection. Occasionally, patients have reported that there is a mild stinging sensation. It is possible to feel slight discomfort, but most procedures take only 10 – 15 minutes. You can return directly to work or normal activities immediately following treatment. However, you should avoid lying flat or exercising for at least four hours after your treatment.

Does Botox have any side effects

While slight bruising may occur, patients rarely experience headache, nausea or temporary eyelid droop. Many of the side effects that are listed for Botox are seen when large amounts are injected for medical purposes (such as underarm sweating or migraine headaches) as opposed to the small amounts used for cosmetic purposes.
