Curious about the O-Shot? We Answer All of Your Questions

The O-Shot is an exciting new blood-derived treatment for women who struggle with urinary incontinence and sexual function problems. Many factors can impact your vaginal health, from pregnancy and childbirth to hormonal changes and the aging process. The O-Shot can help rejuvenate your sexuality.

At her Lafayette, Indiana practice, Dr. Carolyn Kochert supports her patients from the inside out. She stays trained in up-to-date regenerative treatments like the O-Shot so that she can help you feel your best. If you’ve been experiencing pain during sexual activity or would like to experience a stronger libido, talk to Dr. Kochert about your symptoms. She’ll help you decide if the O-Shot might be right for you.

Who can the O-Shot help?

Lots of women suffer from sexual problems — maybe as high as 30-50%, with a higher incidence in younger people. Psychological and physiological factors can reduce sex drive, sexual pleasure, and ability to climax.

These are some of the disorders that the O-Shot can help with:

  • Female Sexual Arousal Disorder, or difficulty in attaining arousal
  • Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder, or low sexual desire
  • Female Orgasmic Disorder, a condition that affects about 1 in 20 women in the US
  • Dyspareunia, or pain during sex not related to lack of lubrication
  • Genital mismatch

If you have one of these conditions or are otherwise unhappy with your current sexual experience, an O-Shot could be a natural, non-surgical solution.

How does the O-Shot work?

The O-Shot is based on innovative PRP treatments that are concentrated from a sample of your own blood. Platelet-rich plasma, or PRP, has been used in sports medicine to encourage healing since the 1980s. More recently, other regenerative applications have been identified for PRP, including the O-Shot.

The O-Shot was pioneered by Dr. Charles Runels, MD, after his success in using PRP for facial rejuvenation in the “vampire facial,” a treatment adopted by celebrities like the Kardashians. Like the vampire facial, the O-Shot involves the use of a PRP treatment for rejuvenation. In the case of the O-Shot, PRP rejuvenates sensation in the vaginal tissue, clitoris, and overall genital region.

What is getting the O-Shot like?

Before you begin an O-Shot treatment, the doctor numbs your genitals with a cream. We also numb a blood draw site, then draw blood just as we would for any standard blood test.

With a centrifuge, we’ll separate your blood into its component parts, and isolate the platelet-rich plasma. We’ll add calcium chloride to the PRP before injecting the solution into your erogenous areas, including the clitoris and upper vagina. A heavy-duty local anesthetic will keep you from experiencing pain during the treatment.

The whole process, from blood draw to finish, will take about one hour.

What results can you expect after getting the O-Shot?

You’re likely to feel the effects of the O-Shot right away, and the change in your sexual arousal may be dramatic. Most experience results within a few weeks at the longest, with the benefits, typically peaking after about three full months.

Each person responds a little differently to the O-Shot, but typical effects include:

  • Greater arousal from clitoral stimulation
  • Stronger orgasm
  • More frequent orgasm
  • Increased libido and sexual desire
  • Increased ability to have a vaginal orgasm
  • Decreased pain for those with dyspareunia (painful intercourse)
  • Increased natural lubrication
  • Decreased urinary incontinence
  • Improved skin on the vulva

Dr. Kochert is one of a limited number of practitioners who have received the training required to administer the O-Shot. To find out more about this revolutionary procedure in vaginal health and function, call Dr. Kochert Pain & Health or book an appointment online.
