Microneedling What is microneedling?
The microneedling process involves making controlled microscopic injuries in your skin to trigger your body's internal healing process. As your body heals the wounds, you create new natural collagen to smooth, tighten, and enhance your skin.
Microneedling is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments available today. Some of the most popular uses for microneedling include:
- Smoothing lines and wrinkles
- Tightening and firming skin
- Improving skin texture
- Reducing scars and stretch marks
- Reducing or removing unwanted pigmentation
Dr. Kochert uses the Exion because it's an automated microneedling system that offers consistently excellent results.
How does Exion microneedling work?
First, Dr. Kochert applies a numbing cream to the treatment area to clean and prepare your skin. The applicator has 24 tiny needles, which creates controlled punctures.
Dr. Kochert chooses the Exion setting (the needle depth) according to your skin issues and concerns. Tougher skin, such as scar tissue, typically needs deeper needling than surface level issues like rough skin texture.
Dr. Kochert moves the Exion in gentle gliding motions, sweeping across the treatment area until she treats all damaged areas of skin. This allows you to absorb products on a far deeper level than normal topical application ever could.
Microneedling can also be combined with PRP for a Vampire Facial® to dramatically enhance your skin using powerful growth factors from your own blood.
What does microneedling feel like?
Many patients compare Exion treatment to the sensation of sandpaper being lightly and briefly swept on your skin. Generally, the treatment is quite comfortable, and Dr. Kochert can use additional numbing products if you need them.
When will I see results after my microneedling session?
You'll see improvement right away, but your skin will likely be red for around two to four days. Your tiny skin punctures can heal in as little as 24 hours. You'll notice a continual improvement in your skin's appearance for up to six months following your Exion treatment.
How many microneedling treatments do I need?
It varies according to your concerns and problems. Most patients enjoy optimal results with two or three treatments. Dr. Kochert schedules your treatments six to eight weeks apart, and you'll notice a dramatic improvement after each session.
